The slow hunch. That’s probably not going to make for a very thrilling half-hour drama on TNT, but it does make for an interesting read about ideas. Here’s a quick take on Johnson’s slow hunch:

Most good ideas don’t arrive suddenly in a bolt of lightning…they arrive in waves and “fade into view” slowly. As a result, it’s critical to “cultivate” hunches. Nurture them. Document and explore them in a journal. Make sure hunches can collide with other hunches in liquid networks. Don’t be discouraged if a hunch doesn’t blossom into a major, fully-formed idea right away – it simply doesn’t work that way.
